Halloween is coming up – which is the perfect time of year to make distasteful/grotesque recipes.

It’s never too early to wreak your Halloween havoc, so found a demon baby, slaughtered it & thought I’d serve it up to some unsuspecting guests – brains and guts included.

I was invited to an event which was usually potluck and I thought to myself that this would be the perfect chance to develop a new recipe – sort of like a practice run for Halloween (plus, if the hostess doesn’t specifically say you cannot bring a demon spawn, then she can’t be unhappy about it if you do)

If you love baby demons, you best avert your gaze now

RIP – delicious demon spawn

Shanghai Dumplings – Dinner – Melbourne

Whenever I head to Melbourne, I always stop by here. For food and for entertainment.

The food is good, quick and cheap and the service is atrocious. Which is part of the charm really – especially if there’s a birthday in the house because they will play the loudest, lamest ‘happy birthday’ song, and if there are several birthday boys & girls in the restaurant, you’ll have the pleasure of hearing it 3 times in 20 mins.

It’s always a pleasure to bring Shanghai Dumpling first-timers here without telling them what to expect of the service. Admittedly, I think the staff do play it up a bit as its service is now as infamous and the food is famous but still, a good laugh to be had.

Now here’s a place that I’m regularly refused entry to. No salacious history here or anything, they’re just usually booked out when I’m wandering around Glebe Pt Rd trying to find a bite.

I recently visited Maggie Beer’s farm in Adelaide, SA and remembered that she was on a show called The Cook and the Chef on ABC.

One of the recipes I’d wanted to try for a while was an egg yolk ravioli and whaddaya noe? There’s a recipe for that on The Cook and the Chef website.

Uova Di Raviolo – Egg yolk ravioli

A beautiful little entre. Lovely homemade pasta with and liquid egg yolk centre – delicious!

RECIPE – Heston Blumenthal’s Perfect Black Forest Gateaux (BFG)

Phew, having taken on the double challenge of 2 recipes from Heston’s In Search of Perfection tv series I am now done.

Heston’s perfect baked alaska & perfect black forest gateaux (BFG) have now been ticked off my to-do list. (See here for other Heston Blumenthal related posts)

Why the 2 of them in one go? Because the BFG has an excess of 12 egg whites leftover and I didn’t really fancy a 12 egg white omelette.
